Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to get their winning momentum going with back-toback friendly matches – the Shell Helix Cup against Mamelodi Sundowns this afternoon, followed by a Macufe Cup tie against Bloemfontein Celtic tomorrow in the Free State.

These two friendly matches will be followed by a daunting Telkom Knockout clash against Cape Town City on October 19 away from home. And Amakhosi goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi says it’s important for Chiefs to continue their winning form, with the club on a three-game unbeaten run going into the friendly matches and the TKO match.

“We have been chasing to get a trophy for some seasons now and I think it’s our first start for a trophy this season,” said Akpeyi about Chiefs’ quest to lift the TKO Cup.

“We are looking forward to making sure that we win something this season starting with the Telkom Knockout, as well as the weekend games (Shell Helix Cup and Macufe Cup). It is very important because every win motivates you ahead of the next one.

“Though we are on top (of the League) today, it calls for more challenges. We are not perfect yet, we are still trying to work out things in every department of the team. But so far it has been going good and we hope that we continue with this momentum because it only takes a moment that could lead us into winning trophies this season.”

With the club on top of the PSL table with 19 points and now having to also focus on cups, Akpeyi is confident they will be able to juggle the two competitions and hopes they remain solid for the rest of the season.

“We are just starting and working through it, we hope it will come right at the end of the season. But we are a professional side and I am sure we are one of the biggest professional sides on the continent,” he added.

“We should be prepared for a whole lot of cups coming up, the Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup and the League. So we are prepared for all of these. We just hope we remain solid so we can at least come up with something at the end of the season.”
