Dalton hot foots to BMW double

Van Rooyen has to settle for second in the first of his heats, but won the next.

Afull and varied programme of regional inland racing thrilled spectators at the Red Star Raceway near Delmas on Saturday. Top billing for the event belonged to the Bridgeston­e BMW Club racing brigade, with 18 cars on the entry list.

Adrian Dalton (Xtra Shoes BMW M3 turbo) took an easy victory in the opening race, chased to the flag by Jan Evertsteyn (Bavaria 0.0% BMW E46 M3), Oz Biagioni (BMW M3), Nek Makris (BMW 328i turbo), Shane Grobler (Mayfair Gearbox BMW 330i) and Renier Smith (Trainedpro­fessionals BMW M3).

A noteworthy retirement was that of Andreas Meier, whose Trainedama­teurs BMW STC broke a side shaft while dicing for the top three places.

Dalton, Evertsteyn and Biagioni took the respective podium places again in race two, chased by a recovered Meier, Makris and Shane Grobler (Mayfair Gearbox BMW 330i).

The opening Lotus challenge race saw title points leader Jeffrey Kruger (Universal Health Birkin) drop out with a blown engine.

Mackie Adlem (Adlem Auto Birkin) then crossed the finish line first, but got penalised for a jump start, which left Rudi Barnard (Barney’s Property Birkin) to win from Robyn Kriel (Universal Health Birkin) and Thomas Falkiner (Adaptive Resource Birkin).

Falkiner won race two, taking the lead on the opening lap and then smoothly, relentless­ly, drawing away from the opposition. Kruger, taking over the Universal Health team car of his
