Stop moaning and take to streets
The hooliganism, street fighting and rude utterances in parliament are symptomatic of the state of the nation. We are angry, fed up, hurt, disappointed – and gatvol!
The economy is in ruins (with trade unions exacerbating the problem), crime out of control, SOEs bankrupt, health services sick – and corruption persists. Crooked and incompetent leaders are still present in all spheres of governance. Zuma, the main cause of the troubles, is still around calling the shots.
All these elements make us a nation of grumblers. They cause us to say nasty things to each other we don’t really mean. Instead of enjoying the fruits the Mandela-era fought so hard for, we are mired in misery.
The time has surely come for the majority of good citizenry to take a stand, take to the streets and show our utter dissatisfaction. And, essentially, we need the genuine media to take the lead in stoking the fires of discontent.
In the meantime, the opposition parties (without the street fighters) must get their houses in order and be ready to come up with workable and sustainable policies. It’s no use replacing the
ANC with another lame duck.
Let’s get to work before the municipal elections. It might very well be our last chance. Henry CB, George
