Venter wins SA Sony World Photo
Sony Middle East and Africa and the World Photography Organisation recently announced that Will Venter has been crowned as the South Africa National Award winner for the Sony World Photography Awards 2020.
As the National Award winner, Venter will be given the Sony Alpha ILCE7M3K camera (A7M3 Body + 28-70mm Zoom Lens – SEL2870).
The National Awards programme is an initiative developed by the World Photography Organisation and Sony to support local photographic communities across 63 countries/ regions from around the world.
The programme awards one photographer from each country for a standalone image and presents them with the opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience at the renowned Sony World Photography Awards 2020 exhibition at Somerset House, London from 17 April to 4 May.
Will Venter was anonymously selected by judges for the water buffalo photograph I’m here, which was entered into the Natural World category of the Open competition.
“This water buffalo had a peek at us passing through a dense bush and had a look as if it wanted to tell us to help him,” says Will.
“This award is an incredible honour.
“To have my work acknowledged on such a big global platform, it inspires me to shoot more and get out in the wild more.”
Over 345 000 images were submitted to the
Sony World Photography Awards 2020 competition.
Over 190 000 entered the Open competition
(from which the National Awards winner was selected) – the highest number of entries to date.
