Clouds Unfold for sprint win

- Jack Milner

A highly respectable Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m tops today’s card at Kenilworth.

Race 7 contains three of the first four past the post in the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship run over the course and distance on Sun Met day on 1 February, with only third-placed Kasimir missing from that quartet.

Russet Air won that event, narrowly holding off a fast-finishing Bold Respect. Fourth place went to Australian-bred filly Run Fox Run who started favourite for the race and was beaten 1.20 lengths.

However, it could be another filly who could have the edge in this race.

Clouds Unfold won the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes over 1600m on Met day, but the Candice Bass-Robinson-trained four-year-old is extremely versatile and should have no problem reverting to 1000m.

The daughter of brilliant sprinter What A Winter has raced five times over the course and distance for three wins and two unplaced efforts. The last time was in the Grade 2 Southern Cross Stakes in which she was well beaten by winner Run Fox Run. However, that was her first run back from an injury that resulted in Clouds Unfold missing the entire KZN winter season.
