RADIO STAR: BALA SEEMS TO HAVE DISCOVERED FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH

- Megan van den Heever

‘Another woman’s choice with what she does with her face or body is none of my business.’

We’re convinced Melanie Bala has discovered the fountain of youth, because she hasn’t aged one bit in the last two decades.

From her flawless skin to her lithe physique and her sassy attitude thrown in for good measure, the Metro FM star looks near identical to how she looked when she burst into the entertainment scene back in the 1990s.

It’s almost impossible to believe the mom of two has not hit “pause” on the ageing process.

From incredibly good genes to her winter beauty must-haves, Bala spills the tea about looking young and feeling fresh.

Name a few of your best beauty secrets (especially for the cold winter months)

I don’t know if they’re secrets but I believe everything in moderation. So I’ll have that cupcake or piece of chocolate if that’s what I feel like. Life is too short to deprive myself.

Also, I try and drink lots and lots of water. It’s harder in winter but I see it in my skin if I’m dehydrated.

Once a month, I soak in a really hot bath with Epsom salts, baking soda and essential oils and let the steam do wonders to draw out any toxins in my system.

What are some of your favourite beauty treatments to have?

I’m not big on treatments but a moisturising facial and an aromatherapy Thai massage always make me feel amazing afterwards.

What are some of your essential beauty products you can’t go without?

Dermalogica’s Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque is a must have. Magnolia Oil from Pep Stores is great for added hydration. I add it to my moisturiser in winter. And Bio Oil Gel for dry skin.

What is the secret behind your youthful appearance?

Honestly, genetics!

I’d like to take credit but I come from a family of beautiful women who all have amazing skin and look young, even though some have grandchildren already.

Tell us what’s in your handbag?

Now? Sanitiser and a spare mask.

Plus the usual notebook, pen, small makeup bag, small medicine bag with migraine tablets for emergencies, tissues, hand cream, gum.

Do you believe in having plastic surgery/enhancements or not?

Absolutely – if it makes you feel better, go for it. Another woman’s choice with what she does with her face or body is really none of my business.
