Drier’s Captain to lead them home

THE Grade 2 Post Merchants over 1200m moves to Hollywoodbets Scottsville this year which means it will be raced up the straight rather than around the turn at Greyville.

It probably evens the race out somewhat because at least a wide draw today will not be such a disadvantage.

There seem to be some decent three-year-olds in this year’s lineup and they could be the runners to fight it out. Invidia and Cartel Captain fought out the R5-million CTS 1200 at Kenilworth in January and they could repeat the feat today. However, the result could be reversed because Invidia, who won by 0.75 lengths, is now 2kg worse off and that should enable Dennis Drier’s charge to go one better.

Fortune have their stables in good form. Sean Veale is aboard Cartel Captain while Craig Zackey picks up the ride on Invidia.

Rebel’s Champ and Ultra Magnus also have some history between them. They met over this course and distance in December when Ultra Magnus won by 0.50 lengths. There is no change in the weight differential, but based on the fact that Rebel’s Champ has raced more recently Paul Peter’s runner could turn the tables.

It is an open race and one needs to load the leg in all the exotics.

There are three other Graded races on the card, the first two for two-yearolds.

However, It could be the Western Cape horses who dominate the twoyear-old events with unbeaten Delta Queen, winner of the Cape Fillies Nursery, getting the better of Highveld-based Slalom Queen in the Strelitzia Stakes for fillies.
