Lor set for ‘Cool’ winner

- Luke Middlebrook

Hong Kong racing action returns to Happy Valley for a nine-race card today after a bloodbath for favourite backers at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Frankie Lor’s in-form four-yearold Kinda Cool will shoot for a hattrick in the Class 3 1200m Handicap in Race 9.

Kinda Cool is racing in careerbest form since Lor applied blinkers two starts ago, which saw him scoot away for an effortless twolength victory lumping 60.5kg at the top of Class 4.

The Per Incanto gelding took to Class 3 last time out and justified heavy market support to score well again, with the 0.75-length winning margin far better than it reads as it was a soft win with jockey Joao Moreira barely getting busy on him.

Now a three-time winner from eight, Kinda Cool is building an impressive record and it seems as though he still has ratings points up his sleeve.

Elsewhere, consistent performer Scores Of Fun looks on song to land a third career win on the seven-day back-up in the Class 3 1200m Handicap in Race 8.

Scores Of Fun has won two of his nine starts but finished runner-up on five occasions, with one of those seconds occurring at last Wednesday’s meeting when he raced with excuses.

Usually one to race handy to the speed, Scores Of Fun was crowded early out the barriers and lost ground, settling 11th running at the tail of the field.

Letting down swiftly with the fastest final 400m sectional in the race, Scores Of Fun ate up the ground late to finish 1.25 lengths astern of the winner, who gave him a 3.75-length start at the 400m. This week’s race appears weaker than recent outings, which presents Scores Of Fun an opportune moment to get back into the winner’s enclosure.
