Cape Town City coach Johan Olde Reikerink was left purring after his team came from 2-1 down to beat Lamontville Golden Arrows 4-2 in a DStv Premiership fixture at home on Sunday.

It was City’s second win in a row and in the two games they have scored six goals and conceded two, taking them to fourth place on the standings, five points off leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“First, off, I am happy with the result,” said Reikerink after the match.

“We scored first but they came back with two goals and the biggest quality we showed today was to be a team who do not lie down ...we fought back and won 4-2.

“We started very well, and dominated in the first 20 minutes and scored a goal and had some other opportunities,” added the Dutchman.

He was, however, concerned that after getting an early goal, they took their foot off the pedal and allowed Abafana Bes’thende back into the game.

But at the same time, he was also impressed with the way they overturned the scoreline with two second half goals.

“I think we gave it away in the first half – and complements to Arrows they are a dynamic and very good team.

“They scored the two goals which were from two set-pieces.

“But after that, we bounced back and I think that’s where we made a great effort, and I think it helped that we put Mpho (Makola) on, he helped the team a great deal.

“It was fantastic. I am very proud,” said the 57-year-old mentor.

The Citizens will have some time to celebrate their good result and recuperate, as they only have to be back on the field this coming Sunday when they visit Baroka FC.

Bakgaga have been blowing hot and cold this season, going away to Cape Town and beating Stellenbosch FC 3-1, but then losing 2-0 at home to AmaZulu FC in their next game.
