Pep’s team a banker bet

Manchester United are set to stay top of the English Premier League but their neighbours Manchester City are on their heels and should be too good for wallowing West Bromwich Albion

Afull round of Premier League fixtures tonight and tomorrow follows fast on the weekend’s FA Cup action.

Manchester United, who beat Liverpool at home in the cup on Sunday, must be expected to keep up their two-point lead in the standings as they host Sheffield United tomorrow.

The visitors remain with just a single victory in 19 league matches and firmly in bottom place, but have won two cup games in recent weeks and had a rare taste of victory.

Those wins will have done wonders for the psyche at the club and that makes Sheffield United dangerous at Old Trafford, even if the two clubs sit at opposite ends of the standings.

Tonight second-placed Manchester City are away at second-from-bottom West Bromwich Albion and Pep Guardiola’s team are a banker to win in TAB soccer pools.

Liverpool are away at Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, when Jose Mourinho goes up against Jurgen Klopp.

The defending champions are just six points off the pace and while there is much mumbling about their form after two successive losses, they are far from a crisis. But a win at

Spurs looks a stretch and a draw is a more realistic option.

Chelsea must beat Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow. They are ninth in the standings and what the mood will be in their dressing room is anybody’s guess after manager Frank Lampard’s sacking.

Mikel Arteta is not making the expected progress at Arsenal, who lost to Southampton on Saturday in the FA Cup and return to St Mary’s Stadium tonight.
