Send me a bet on Richard

- Jack Milner

There is often a comment from the top jockeys that bookmakers price up everything they ride too short, that the odds don’t match the form.

Bookmakers respond by telling those jockeys they should take it as a mark of respect for their riding ability.

The fact is Richard Fourie is the hottest property on the local racing scene and virtually every one of his rides is priced up favourite regardless of the form. On the other hand, it is quite remarkable how many of those horses he is bringing home and right now, in a close finish he has no peer as we all saw on Thunderstruck in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes last Saturday.

So, it comes as no surprise to see a Fourie-ridden runner earmarked as the best bet on today’s card at Hollywoodbets Greyville where they will race on the turf track.

That ride comes up in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1600m where he is aboard Send Me for trainer Tony Rivalland.

He not only has the best form in the race but for those punters who like to follow number progressions, this three-year-old Gimmethegreenlight gelding has raced three times, finishing fourth on debut followed by a third place and last time was a fast-finishing second behind Imaginable.

Fourth, third, second – we all know what has to be next.

He sprinted well in his first two starts and then had his first try at 1600m where he received a bump at the start and then got going too late. However, it showed he will stay and in fact, has stamina for at least 2000m in his female line.

Although this will be his first run at this course, now fitted with blinkers and jumping from draw No 1 he should comfortably be able to shed his maiden tag.
