Back in the day, if a bicycle was stolen the cops would go out and look for it for days on end. My car was stolen and reported to the police after three days. I’ve got a ‘no reply’ message back from the SA Police Service. Case closed until further leads. What a disgrace.

James Spies

I read about the president’s claim that ‘a lot is being done’ on crime fighting and that an additional 30 000 police officers have been hired over the past three years. Can the president or his minister of police please explain why the crime statistics continue to increase year on year?

Please don’t demean Mother Theresa by comparing Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor to her.

Pandor’s call for people to protest outside the Israeli embassy is as unprofessional as it gets. What on earth is that woman thinking? If she cannot do her job without bias or prejudice then she should step down immediately.

President Cyril Ramaphosa claims the ANC has brought people out of poverty. What a load of hogwash. The only people who have benefited are ANC politicians, with all their stealing and corruption over the past 30 years that they have been in power. This country will never get people out of poverty. It will only get worse.

Now we are told that we will still pay after the e-toll gantries are switched off. Why do we pay car licences? In the old days the fee paid for the annual car licence covered the costs of road maintenance. Now the money collected is used for other things. If we are still going to pay, then annual licences should be done away with and we know that won’t happen.

Whoever blames ‘the past’ for rising poverty in our country would do better to target those responsible for the continuous unjustified price increases of petrol. We have now reached the stage where the average motorist can no longer afford to get to work. LOL.

Theo Smith, re ANC failure: if they do get voted out, who do you think will step into their corrupt shoes? This country is doomed as there is nobody honest to take over.

Enid

So, Markus Jooste, your sins are out. I can hardly wait for those involved in state capture to suffer the same fate. Will they also take the coward’s way out?
