Ricardo has an ace up his sleeve
Singapore racing continues tomorrow featuring a 10-race turf and dirt fixture which is highlighted by the running of the $110,000 Group 3 Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint over 1200m on turf.
There are two standouts in this week’s feature – the Ricardo Le Grange-trained Ace Of Diamonds and Steven Burridge’s charge Bakeel. With an eye-catching record of three wins and three placings from eight starts, Ace Of Diamonds stands out as the highestrated horse under the weigh-forage conditions.
On paper, the up-and-comer checks plenty of boxes as he is the only horse who has competed in Class 3, where he finished a close second to the in-form four-yearold Makin the last time he raced 42 days ago. Since then, Makin has gone on to win another two races, which bodes well for Ace Of Diamonds’ chances.
On the other hand, Bakeel, who resumed after a lengthy break in late February, returned to his best form second-up when scoring an impressive win by three lengths in a quality Novice race.
Notably, he holds an edge over most rivals as the second-highestrated horse and gives the impression he is a horse with plenty more upside as connections have always spoken highly of his prospects.
Elsewhere, champion trainer Jason Ong’s new acquisition Pacific Vampire looks ideally placed to score a debut in the $50,000 Class 4 race over 1000m on the Polytrack.
A three-time winner from 13 starts, Pacific Vampire formerly raced in New South Wales and Queensland where he showed consistent form in some quality races. He was last seen finishing second in a BM80 race at Doomben, missing by only 0.50 lengths over 1100m.
Despite boasting strong overseas form, Pacific Vampire surprisingly finds himself in a relatively low class (Class 4) on his local debut. In addition, he won a recent trial by more than five lengths in a race-like winning time of 58.48 seconds, suggesting a big run on debut is likely. -
