Tshwane mayor needs support

-

As a resident, I had almost given up on the City of Tshwane ever being turned around. Nearly every day, we wake up to one negative story after another. It almost felt like the city had been broken beyond repair.

I was pleasantly relieved when mayor Cilliers Brink, pictured, announced, in his State of the City Address last week, that the city had achieved an improved audit outcome from the auditor-general (AG).

I particularly like the honesty displayed by the mayor when he admitted that, while Tshwane’s financial rescue mission is far from complete, he remained optimistic that the city is working towards achieving an unqualified audit opinion.

All Tshwane residents know that the city was at the bottom of the barrel, and improvements in the audit outcomes are a welcome development.

I can only conclude that the mayor and his team have achieved this favourable outcome from the AG because they have not been scared to make difficult decisions.

Keeping spending in check and refusing to budge on wage increase demands was the mark of true leadership from Brink.

As residents of Tshwane, we must give the mayor and his team all the support they need to get the city working again.
