Every dog has his day
A social event for pets and their owners called ‘My Pet’s Day Out’ will be coming to Brightwater Commons. The day promises to be one full of fun, laughter and of course wagging tails.
Scheduled to take place from 9am, the event will be hosted by Mix FM presenter and popular personality Roxy Blows. Featuring a wide variety of great entertainment, My Pet’s Day Out will include prize give-aways at various intervals during the day as well as the dazzling Independence Dance Show at 10.15am.
A 2014 calendar of rescue stories will be available for purchase on the day. The calendar, which is sponsored by Cresta Hotels, features heart-warming images of previously abused animals which are now fully recovered and in happy homes. These will be on sale at the event for R120 each, the full profit of which will be donated between Cats Cradle in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Lucky Lucy Foundation in Cape Town and Woodrock Animal Rescue in Johannesburg.
As part of the event’s fun and entertainment, four separate competitions will be held on the commons for proud dog owners. If your dog is the the master of the sit, stay and roll-over then the Best Handler competition will be right up your alley. Bring your well-trained companions along and let them showcase their obedience skills.
For pampered pooches with more style than skills, the Fancy Dress competition is a fun way to show off some panache. Get creative and dress your dog up with different accessories, you can even add to the experience by donning a cute outfit to match.
If your faithful friend is seven years or older, the Golden Oldies event will celebrate the most distinguished and refined pets in Jo’burg as they take a digni- fied turn about the competition grounds.
Lastly, a Grand Prix competition will be held in search of the star of the show and will be awarded to that one unique character that runs off with the audience’s hearts.
Registration for these events will take place between 9am and 10am, and will require a R10 entry fee per dog which will be donated to the above-mentioned charities.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Ivok Gallery Auction which will feature breath-taking animal photography from Ivok Studio as well as the top 35 finalists featured in the Cesar’s Way Your Photos competition for 2013.
The auction will take place between 10.30am and 11.15am.
