Conference interdicted
A court interdict was served on the ANC in Limpopo at its Peter Mokaba regional conference in Polokwane yesterday, the party’s provincial task team said.
“Members of the ANC are interdicting us because they are not happy with the result of the conference,” convenor Elleck Nchabeleng said. “The conference will proceed as scheduled. Our response will follow later.”
The SA Broadcasting Corporation reported that Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema’s former ally, Lehlogonolo Masoga, was elected chairman of the region yesterday.
The SABC said a group of delegates walked out of the conference, saying some people had been denied the opportunity to vote.
Masoga and Malema reportedly fell out in 2010 during the ANC Youth League’s provincial conference in Makhado when Masoga accused Malema of dictating how the conference should be run. Subsequently, Masoga was suspended from the ANC after he took the party to court alleging that the way the conference was run amounted to maladministration. –
