Former EFF member Lufuno Gogoro says he fears for his life and for the health of his mother. This after he was accused of working with outgoing Johannesburg MMC for housing and ANC member Dan Bovu, who allegedly wanted to bribe EFF councillors to vote for the ANC in Monday’s elections for the mayoral and speaker positions.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, Gogoro said a case of corruption has since been opened against him by the EFF.

“How can they accuse me of working with Bovu, somebody that I have not even spoken to in long time. I don’t have any business with the ANC because I am now a member of the Progressive Alliance (PA),” said Gogoro.

He said the last time he was as scared was when EFF leader Julius Malema allegedly accused him of trying to destroy the party, which resulted in EFF supporters threatening to burn his house.

“My mother suffered a stroke since and she is still frequently going to hospital for check ups.

“I don’t know why they are still involving me in their business, but what I can tell you is that Julius Malema hates me … in 2013, Julius and his deputy Floyd Shivambu found the EFF, which had already been started by some of us, but they came in and changed everything,” he said.

Gogoro said he was not worried about any cases opened against him. “At the end of the day, it is them who will have to provide evidence on their claims. I’m only worried about my safety,” he said.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi was not available for comment at the time of going to press yesterday. –
