Usuthu push for promotion
AmaZulu FC are worried about the team’s name being forgotten if they spend any more time in the National First Division and have brought in reinforcements in a bid to win promotion to the Absa Premiership.
Usuthu were relegated to the NFD two years ago and their efforts to climb back to the top flight last season were futile as the team finished in seventh position.
But now there is an air of exuberance at the club, and they believe they have a better chance of going up this time around.
A new coach and a few experienced players have come in. Joey Antipas, who guided Zimbabwean team, Chicken Inn to a league title will handle the team.
Among the experienced players is Mabhuti Khenyeza who is among the very few who have scored more than 100 goals in the Premiership.
This week, AmaZulu also announced the signing of former Polokwane City striker Siphelele Nzimande.
AmaZulu start their NFD campaign at home against another former Premiership team, Black Leopards on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Witbank Spurs owner Themba Mafu, who – just like Jomo Sono also coaches the side – has had to allay fears that his team was being sold and relocated as they prepared for the new campaign.
“I would like to assure everyone that Spurs and myself will continue in building up this brand until we attain our main goal of playing Premiership football,” said Mafu.
