Brilliant spectacle, good weather and a large crowd typified round 11 of this year’s Extreme Festival at the Western Cape Killarney circuit on Saturday.

Heading up proceeding­s were three races for Sasol Global Touring Cars, with the new formula visiting Cape Town for the first time.

Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Audi A3 GTC) won the opening race from Simon Moss (Engen Xtreme Audi), plus the Sasol BMW GTC entries of Gennaro Bonafede and Hennie Groenewald.

Starting from the front row, Bonafede got a jump on the rest in race two and won for BMW, ahead of Stephen, Moss and Johan Fourie (EPS Couriers BMW).

Stephen reversed the roles again in the final heat, taking the victory from Bonafede, Fourie and Moss.

Daniel Rowe took all three GTC Production class races in his works Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The first race for G&H Transport Extreme Supercars saw the Lotus Exige Honda Turbo of Dawie Joubert pull off with a puncture, while the Jogajoga Porsche GT2R of Johan Engelbrech­t and the Pirelli Lamborghin­i of Charl Arangies both retired with gearbox problems.

That left Craig Jarvis (Panacea Ferrari F430 GT3) to win from Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430) and Adrian Dalton (Xtra Shoes BMW E46 Turbo).

Joubert returned to win the second race in fine style, setting the day’s quickest lap time.

Bradley Liebenberg (Ferodo Polo) won the opening Engen Volkswagen Cup race ahead of Chris Shorter (Payen Polo) and Jurie Swart (Ferodo Polo).

Shaun La Reservee (Alpine Motors Polo) led race two from start to finish, followed by Liebenberg and Matt Shorter (Champion Polo).

The third time around, Liebenberg emerged in front again.

Dewald Brummer (MAD Mygale) won both the Investchem Formula 1600 single seater races from Julian van der Watt (Investchem Mygale), with Dean Venter (Fuchs Mygale) and Alex Gillespie (Mbotyl Lodge Mygale) taking the third places.

Both the Hankook Formula Vee races produced close competitio­n.

Anthony Taylor (Vacuform Rhema) won the first time, ahead of Peter Hills (Lube Fusion Rhema), Alan Holm (Office Direct Rhema), Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Rhema) and Jaco Schriks (VW Rhema). The five cars were covered by six-tenths of a second over the finish line.

Holm won an equally tight race two from Greg Wilson (Reflex Solutions Rhema), Hills, Schriks and Taylor.

Graeme van Breda (Ivis ZX10R) won the first Red Square Kawasaki Masters race, finishing ahead of Gerald van Heerden (Ast Africa Zx10R) and Kyle Robinson (Fantech ZX10R).

Van Breda repeated the victory in race two, followed by Robinson and Sanjiv Singh (Kawasaki ZX10R).

Lady racer Tasmin Pepper (Lee Thompson Polo) won the first Comsol VW Challenge heat, leading home Rory Atkinson (Comsol Polo) and Waldie Meintjes (Marty’s Polo).

Pepper’s car slowed with electronic maladies in race two, leaving Meintjes to win from Atkinson and Devon Piazza-Musso (Reef Supplies Polo).

Nicholas Grobler (Golden Mile Yamaha R1) won the first race for Thunderbik­es, followed by David McFadden (BMW) and Daryn Upton (Turnskill Yamaha R1).

Grobler’s Yamaha lost an exhaust the next time out, while McFadden’s BMW cut out in the pit straight. Upton went on to win from Trevor Westman (Yamaha) and Dean Vos (Kawasaki).

The next round of the 2016 Extreme Festival will take place at the new Kyalami circuit from October 22 to 24.
