Focusing on eradicating drug and substance abuse should be priority number one, if we hope to reduce crime. Research has shown that more than 230 million people use drugs worldwide. It is a worldwide challenge that we need to fight headon. It starts right where we stay.

It is reported that Emalahleni in the province of Mpumalanga is very high on the list of drug abuse in the country. Nyaope is suspected to be the main drug in question.

Drug use and alcohol abuse is said to be fuelled by unemployment.

Government and the private sector must join forces in creating jobs and doing more in recreation centres to help keep the young ones from this deadly addiction.

Our teenagers in the townships and in rural villages are being lost to the addiction. It is heartbreaking to witness how young people have become slaves to nyaope.

The rate of crime has grown rapidly because they steal in order to sell items to buy either drugs or alcohol to satisfy their desire.

We all know the consequences of drug and alcohol addiction – teenage pregnancy, bullying and deaths at school and a high rate of dropouts from school are just some of them.

Our kids’ look older than they are. They die young.

We need to expose the druglords who kill our young people. They are killing the nation.

We need to get rid of them in order to eradicate this bad habit and save the younger generation.
