Amajita ready for action
The South African national Under-20 team begin their Cosafa cup title defence with an intriguing encounter against Lesotho in Group A at the Moruleng Stadium today.
Amajita won the competition three years ago when it was staged in Lesotho after beating invitational nation Kenya 2-0 in the final as they went on to lift the trophy for the fifth time.
Going into the tournament coach Thabo Senong (above) has a number of new players in the team, however, the Amajita mentor is impressed by the squad after beating Kenya 3-1 in an international friendly played last month as part of the preparations for the tournament.
“What the Kenya game indicated to us is that we have a very big and good pool of players. Most of them in that squad didn’t have experience but they played very well against a very strong and matured side,” said the Amajita coach.
One of the new members of the squad includes Sweden-based striker Luther Singh who plays for Gais FC in the Swedish second tier. The forward has been tipped as a future Bafana Bafana striker and Senong has predicted a very good future for the powerful frontman.
“Luther is a very good player,” Senong added. “He makes great runs and has a very sharp eye for a goal. He is a very good young man and he needs to be looked at very closely in order to help him progress in his career.
“He is definitely a player one should look out for in the future in the senior national team.”
