he DStv iRock Rustenburg Music Festival this weekend has become a must visit and it will usher in the 2016 festive season with a bang.
Packed with a sizzling lineup to satisfy every music taste, this 12hour non-stop party will be one to remember.
“This time of the year is ideal to head outside main business hubs like Joburg to provinces like the North West, where the final 2016 instalment of the DStv iRock Music Festivals will take place.
From unleashing new talent in the region to enhancing the music industry, Rustenburg is sure to be at the centre of the action this December,” says Nomsa Chabeli Mazibuko, general manager for marketing at DStv.
On a quest to save the kwaito music genre, the “Godfather of Kwaito” and Mzansi’s very own “Mkhulu bae”, Mdu Masilela, who started trending at musician Mandoza’s funeral due to his good looks, will perform the hits that made him popular during kwaito’s heyday in the ’90s.
Durban-born dancer, singer and entertainer Babes Wodumo will heat up the DStv iRock Music Festival stage for the very first time. Best known for her hit song Wololo and her energetic dance moves, this crowd favourite will have the festival bopping.
“After a disappointing no-show at the DStv iRock Limpopo 2016 pre-party over Heritage weekend, fans undoubtedly look forward to seeing Wodumo in action in Rustenburg,” Mazibuko said.
For the hip-hop heads, there is entertainment galore, from #FillUpOrlandoStadium hit-maker Cassper Nyovest, to young hiphop sensations Emtee and Nasty C; Ngud’ rapper Kwesta; North West-born first lady of Motswako Fifi Cooper; Ambitiouz Entertainment’s latest sensation, A-Reece; and hip-hop DJ and rapper, DJ Citi Lyts, who recently brought us the hit single Vura.
More off-the-chains performances are expected from House DJs and artists Euphonik; DJ Shimza; Black Coffee; and Black Motion, who will be burning the midnight oil to end off the bash of all bashes.
Afro-soul sensation Donald, and House music DJ/producer Mobi Dixon, responsible for unearthing fresh talent from the Rustenburg region in the DStv iRock Rustenburg Battle for the Stage competition, will also perform on Saturday.
The DStv iRock pre-party, with Mobi Dixon as the main act, is set to warm up the weekend’s festivities at Reggies Cigar Lounge in Tlhabane on Friday, with doors opening at 7pm and tickets available for R100 at the door.
The two DStv iRock Rustenburg Battle for the Stage winners will open the pre-party for Mobi Dixon on Friday, and the main stage on Saturday.
On top of that, Pretoria-born DStv iRock Rustenburg 2015 Battle for the Stage winner and rising Hip Hop star, Jay Makopo, will be another one of the opening acts of the festival.
The festival will kick off at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium from 4pm on Saturday.
