Lower speed limits to curb deaths
At the national traffic indaba in Durban on Tuesday, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters urged us to “reflect on international best practices that we need to adopt”.
This is exactly what whistle-blowers have been urging the government to do since 1994 – and we are still waiting.
The minister has at long last promised to address inadequate traffic policing, but remains silent on our biggest road killer: speed.
So when will she lower limits to international safe standards?
Cape Town.
