Bakgatla bike tour will get you buzzing
Sun City is introducing a range of bespoke experiences so visitors can explore the North West province, its history and its people.
Sun City in partnership with Mankwe Gametrackers now offers the Leeto-Kgolo Village Tour, a meander around four Bakgatla heritage sites and through the village of Moruleng on bicycles.
The guided tour starts at Sun City from where visitors will go to Mphebatho Cultural Museum in Moruleng village. On arrival, a local tour guide will take guests through the museum, explaining the traditions and history of the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela before the outdoor adventure takes place.
According to Andrew Irumba, Sun City marketing manager, the bicycle route goes past the cemetery for the first missionaries to arrive in Moruleng in the 1800s and Kgosi Kgamanyane’s wall, among other landmarks.
Cyclists stop along the way for refreshments at a local shebeen/tuckshop and interact with the locals, view the first non-missionary school and learn about the rain-making rock. At ‘Tshilong’, they are welcomed with traditional beer, learn about traditional food preparation and get some hands-on involvement in the process. To retain the interactive and personalised nature of the tour, the number of guests on bicycles are limited, but guests are also welcome to make use of the vehicle option. The tour takes about four hours.
Guests can also enjoy the rhino notching experience as part of the Pilanesberg National Park’s commitment to rhino conservation, says Irumba. – Citizen reporter
