Heat is on boosting business and jobs

- Business reporter

Businesses and non-governmental organisations have united to stage a business-readiness and employment event in Soweto tomorrow to confront head-on, the economic challenges facing South Africa’s youth.

The event, The Business Warm-Up, aims to stimulate local business, and create jobs through business start-ups as well as assist job seekers to find employment.

Supported by Infinity Learning, Harambee, The Business Place, National Small Business Chamber (NSBC) and the Zinto Marketing Group (Zinto), the event is at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani from 9am to 5pm. It is aimed at existing business owners, entrepreneurs and future start-ups, and job seekers wanting to enter the workplace. The City of Joburg’s Department of Economic Development will participate through its partnership with The Business Place which operates seven Biz-Hubs in the city to support small businesses. Mayor Herman Mashaba has expressed concerns about the high unemployment rate.

The different forums and interactive sessions will focus on:

A businessperson/entrepreneur running his/her own business but not knowing how to grow it or make it more profitable;

An aspiring entrepreneur wanting to start a business;

A school leaver/unemployed individual wanting to improve his/her work-readiness to enter the job market. –
