It’s time to recoup my losses

-

It was great to have the Six Nations back this past weekend and, while I never got too involved from a betting perspective, I was able to turn a small profit. This weekend, we have the second week of the Six Nations, but I’m already looking ahead to February 23 and the start of Super Rugby.

People complain about the format and that it has become bloated. I agree. As one who bets on and, in particular, is a rugby punter, I have no problems with any format that serves up at least seven live games a weekend.

I have resisted getting involved in the outright markets up until this point, but a quick look at the betting shows no surprises – the New Zealand sides are expected to dominate.

Using the Sunbet website as a reference, the Hurricanes are 4/1 with the Chiefs 5/1 and the Crusaders and the Highlanders at 11/2.

The first local team in the betting is the Lions at 6/1, and then it is double figures about the balance with the Stormers 12/1, the Sharks 14/1, the Bulls 28/1 and the Cheetahs at 66/1.

Followers of the Goodforthegame website know I have a soft spot for the Blues. They are 20/1 to lift the title and look a strong squad in recent seasons.

But I’m going to keep my powder dry for now as I have too many painful memories of backing the Blues, only for them to become Wooden Spoon contenders.

I decided to get involved in SuperBru last year with the intention of cutting down on my bets, especially early in the competition. The exercise was successful, but it didn’t really stop me from betting.

We are back this year with a Goodforthegame SuperBru pool and I’m also running a buy-in pool where R500 gets you into the most exclusive and potentially profitable pool there is.

Search for them on SuperBru or e-mail me for details.
