Some good stock on Shongweni Mixed Sale

- Ringsider

Wavebreaker - a recent winner at Greyville - is one of 132 lots which will come under the hammer at today’s Shongweni Mixed Sale at the Shongweni polo grounds near Durban.

A son of Sail From Seattle, Wavebreaker is being offered for sale by Malkinsky Stud and judged on his latest effort - he has more wins in the tank.

Over the years, this sale has proved a happy hunting ground for bargain buyers and the 2017 catalogue - boosted by a number of supplementary entries - should prove no different.

Many of the supplementary entries are from the stable of Colin Scott who has sadly passed away at the age of 52.

They include fillies by Gimmethegreenlight and Byword, a colt by Greys Inn (sire of Legal Eagle) and a colt by Judpot out of Stormy Duel.

The first crop feature wins by Hack Green and Gunner have boosted the stallion Gimmethegreenlight and his daughter, Gimmeakiss, should sell well as she’s a half-sister to the five-time winner, Las Ramblas.

Another well-related female is Harmonia, a daughter of A.P. Answer, who is a half-sister to Fourth Estate whom Colin Scott saddled to eight victories.

Other entries on the Scott Racing Stables draft include Frozen In Time, River Nymph and Glitzy.

Frozen In Time, a daughter of Greys Inn, is a five-time winner with her best performance being her victory in the East Cape Breeders Stakes.

River Nymph is a half-sister to three-time winner, Power Lord, who ran third in the East Cape Derby at Fairview. Glitzy, a filly by Mogok, is out of the five-time winner, Flashy.

Brian Burnard has emerged as one of the big owners in the country and he’s sending 11 horses to the sale and they include the Dynasty filly Brown Sugar, the Western Winter filly Recall Dawn and the Silvano gelding, Calabash.

Trainer Denis Bosch’s consistent filly, Lily Gray, a daughter of Tiger Ridge, could also be popular as she’s certainly paid her way for her connections.

Two other familiar fillies coming under the hammer are Allegorical and Light House Lady who have been entered by T&L Racing.

There’s a single entry from Charles Laird’s stable and this is the Silvano filly, Matresse, who has had only eight starts. Anton Marcus partnered her to her maiden victory at Greyville in December.

Another well-known owner, Des Scott, whose talented three year-old Rivet is a 16-1 chance for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, has entered his Black Minnalouche filly, Film Star. She has been placed twice.

Duncan Howells Racing offers Elysian Fields, also by Black Minnalouche, and he’s been placed twice from five outings.

Two others worth a mention are Gracious Lady, a Philanthropist filly from the Tawny Syndicate, and a Great Britain filly, Silver Banshee, consigned by owner Ian Longmore.
