y blood boils when I hear about the resurgence of violent xenophobic attacks, which are directed at foreign nationals. I’m especially infuriated when these attacks are directed at our African nationals. These are our brothers and sisters, who stood by us during the dark days of apartheid.

They even sacrificed their own lives when harbouring us in their countries.

Have we forgotten about the Mozambican, Basotho and Tswana nationals who lost their lives when apartheid forces invaded ANC camps in those countries?

We cannot blame foreigners for all our socio-economic woes. Attacking them and looting their businesses will not solve our economic problems.

Foreign nationals have demonstrated they are good at running small businesses in the townships and rural areas. They provide a service and employ locals.

Government should continue conflict resolution and peaceful dialogue intervention in war-torn regions, especially in Africa. This will help curb the influx of people from those countries.

Outsiders coming to the country will cause problems because they too will compete for our limited resources.

So, lets extend a hand of Ubuntu to the foreign nationals residing in our country, and pressure government to intervene in conflict-ridden countries. A lack of problems in their countries will limit the number of people coming here.
