Steve bemoans crucial dropped points

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela (right) was displeased with his team after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Ajax Cape Town at Athlone Stadium on Saturday night.

What worried Komphela was losing out on three critical points which saw them fall to third place in the Absa Premiership.

“A draw... You don’t want to draw matches at this stage of the season but we’ll take it. In terms of the performance, we are happy with it,” said Komphela.

Amakhosi are tied on 34 points with Bidvest Wits and trail SuperSport United by a point. Wits and SuperSport have one and two games in hand respectively. Komphela has previously said that they need to pick up points to put pressure on teams who have games in hand and is justified in his concern at dropping points especially against the Urban Warriors who have been struggling.

The Glamour Boys were made to sweat for it as Nathan Paulse punished them in the 59th minute, heading home Kabelo Mosadi’s cross.

But Daniel Cardoso equalised 20 minutes later and saved Chiefs serious blushes ahead of the Soweto Derby at the weekend.

Ajax coach Stanley Menzo was however very pleased with a point they earned against a good team.

“We struggled now and then but we did well and I think a draw is all we could take from this game.I am very proud of my team,” said Menzo.
