Zuma still playing the race card
President Zuma, in his frantic bid to rally support for his failing popularity, is treading on dangerous ground in calling for expropriation of land without compensation.
He said: “We don’t hate white people”, but then calls for “black parties” to unite in order to change the constitution. This is in contradiction to an ANC policy statement saying: “We do not support chaos and illegal land grabs.” Zuma, pictured, again playing the worn out race card.
He also said “the land must be returned [to blacks]” and “it is a fact that some people did not buy the land they owned”. What positive proof, that will stand up in a court of law, has he got that whites stole the land?
They all have title deeds. How many blacks is he talking about and who will benefit from the land grabs? Why don’t the blacks in the rural areas utilise the land they are staying on to farm, instead of just squatting. Government can help.
The president then says: “There is land in this country.” Sure enough – government land, municipal land, trust land and land under traditional leaders.
Why is this uncultivated land not given, or leased, to emerging black farmers to start their own farms? The MK Vets want the “land to be returned to the majority” – to do what with?
This land issue, if not handled with great circumspection, could lead to dire consequences, to the detriment of all South Africans. A no-win situation, Mr President.
