Maritzburg United have an immediate chance to gain revenge on Golden Arrows, when the two meet in a Nedbank Cup last-32 KwaZulu-Natal derby tomorrow at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

The game takes place eight days after Arrows beat United 1-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the same venue.

“It is part two,” said United coach Roger de Sa yesterday.

“We did well in the league game, we didn’t deserve to lose, I think they had one shot at goal and scored. I was looking at the stats this morning and they didn’t get a single corner.

“We tried to have a go and couldn’t score. If we play the same way and control the game I am sure we can win.”

United have won just one of five matches since De Sa took over at the start of the year – a 2-1 league victory over Free State Stars on February 26. But the United coach believes his team are improving.

“I inherited a team with its players and I have had to make do but I think now we have few more young players and there is a bit of a vibe, we can certainly play. Previously they were playing through the middle and now we are playing more with wide players.”

Arrows had an excellent first half of the season, but have also not had the best start to the year – the victory over United was Clinton Larsen’s only win in 2017 thus far.

“I have been talking to Clinton and like most teams, we struggle with depth, we have a good 11, 12, 13 players but when there are suspensions and injuries we don’t have the depth of a Wits, Sundowns or Pirates,” added De Sa.
