Coach vows to go on attack against Wits

Cape Town All Stars coach Patrick Mabedi subscribes to the notion of attack being the best form of defence.

Mabedi plans to reinforce Stars’ front line when they face Absa Premiership side Bidvest Wits tomorrow night, with both teams vying for a spot in the last16 of the Nedbank Cup.

Wits quickly returned to South Africa to prepare for this game, after losing 1-0 to Al-Ahly in Cairo in the first leg of their Caf Champions League qualifier on Saturday. The second leg is at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday.

Gavin Hunt’s side will first look to see off Mabedi’s NFD side from the Mother City.

“Most of the changes that we will make will be offensive against Wits, the spinal cord will not be changed. We have been creating chances, and against them (Wits) we will need someone to finish those chances,” said Mabedi.

With a clean bill of health heading into tomorrow night’s tie, the Malawi-born trainer believes their foes are under pressure to register a win against a less-glamorous side from the National First Division.

“We have nothing to lose, we are going to go out there and enjoy the game, at the end of the day Wits are expected to come out and win the game, and ours is to give them a run for their money.”

“I have prepared two teams, one that will play against Wits and another for Leopards. Every team is different – we plan according to each team we face. My players are motivated by playing against a good side like Bidvest Wits.

“In our preparations we didn’t focus on one player in the Wits squad as the dangerman, we focus on the whole team. You have to prepare for the team, not the individuals.”
