Man arrested for killing constable
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Constable Joseph Mondli Chiliza.
He has appeared before the Nsimbini Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal.
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) yesterday said the suspect was arrested by its members attached to Durban Organised Crime Unit, in conjunction with King Shaka International Airport police members. The man was arrested on Wednesday – four weeks after the murder.
“Chiliza was killed on his way to work on February 28. The suspects made off with his service pistol. A case of murder and armed robbery was reported,” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.
The man, who faces charges of murder and armed robbery, was remanded in custody. – ANA
