Man arrested for killing constable

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Constable Joseph Mondli Chiliza.

He has appeared before the Nsimbini Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal.

Directorat­e for Priority Crime Investigat­ion (Hawks) yesterday said the suspect was arrested by its members attached to Durban Organised Crime Unit, in conjunctio­n with King Shaka Internatio­nal Airport police members. The man was arrested on Wednesday – four weeks after the murder.

“Chiliza was killed on his way to work on February 28. The suspects made off with his service pistol. A case of murder and armed robbery was reported,” said Hawks spokespers­on Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.

The man, who faces charges of murder and armed robbery, was remanded in custody. – ANA
