2014 MASTERCHEF WINNER BRENT OWENS GOES IN SEARCH OF SOWETAN STREET FARE The 13-episode series premieres tomorrow.

n this brand new series, viewers follow MasterChef Australia winner for 2014, Brent Owens, as he explores South Africa to discover its beautiful and diverse cultures and terrain, experienci­ng both the extreme and the authentic as Owens unearths real food and adventure.

The talent and author of the bestsellin­g cookbook Dig In joins some of the country’s most establishe­d chefs in the country, goes in search of Sowetan street fare, explores seafood delicacies, tries out the best city-grown farm produce, learns the true meaning behind traditiona­l Afrikaans comfort food and finally experience­s the famous South African braai.

Created and produced by content creation company Oxyg3n Media, the show will consist of 13 episodes, with each being 24 minutes long, and depict largely Owens’ love for food, travel and his adventurou­s spirit during his trip through South Africa.

Owens will discover local cuisine, get to know more from those that have crafted these home-made dishes; exploring aspects of South African history; discoverin­g captivatin­g private stories from residents he meets along the way; and examining some areas of the country that most know every little of, to expose them to an internatio­nal audience.

Brent Owens is an Australian reality television cook. He is the winner of the sixth series of MasterChef Australia.

He was a bobcat driver prior to competing in MasterChef, and has also played Australian Rules football for Melton South Football Club in the Ballarat Football League.

Owen explores the flavoursom­e landscape of South Africa in his Brent Owen Unwrapped series that premieres tomorrow, March 28 at 8pm on Discovery Channel (DStv channel 121). – Citizen reporter
