Salute to Kathy, a man of honour
Iam deeply saddened by the death of Ahmed Kathrada, pictured, a fervent South African human rights defender and a Rivonia trialist. Kathrada, a stalwart of the liberation struggle, dedicated his entire life to eliminating discrimination in all its forms and to achieve a life of dignity for all who live in South Africa.
Kathy, as he was fondly called, tirelessly campaigned to promote non-racialism and fundamental freedoms in South Africa.
Besides fighting the good fight for South Africans, he was very vocal on the occupation of Palestine by Israel.
Moreover, he was unafraid to tell close friends and comrades what he thought and hence vigorously supported the Save South Africa campaign.
The best way to keep his leg- acy alive is to continue his vision and mission and to defend, maintain and support human rights all over the globe.
In order to achieve and maintain peace, you must first develop and nurture justice and the best way to commemorate his life is to pledge to continue what he promoted – strengthen non-racialism and support equality, equity, dignity and freedom.
Uncle Kathy, we salute your courage, allegiance and unfaltering uprightness and sincerely thank you for the significant legacy you leave behind.
While you were alive you taught me many lessons, today your death provides me with the greatest lesson and that is every soul shall taste death.
