Pitso dedicates his award to Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane bagged his fifth Absa Premiership Coach-of-the-Month award, while Cape Town City’s skipper Lebogang Manyama was yesterday voted the best player for the third time in recent months for the month of February.
Speaking at the Premier Soccer League headquarters in Parktown, Mosimane was once again his modest self when he received the award, praising everyone at the Pretoria-based side for the hard work they have put in.
The Brazilians won four of their five fixtures in February, which includes a 6-0 mauling of Orlando Pirates.
“I am just a recipient of the award, this is for everyone at Sundowns,” said the Downs coach.
For Manyama, the award meant the midfielder is doing everything right, which earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up for friendlies against Guinea-Bissau and Angola recently.
“It is honour for me, I didn’t really expect this,” he said. “I would not have done this without my team.”
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates leftback Marc van Heerden, Kaizer Chiefs winger George Lebese, Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke and Sundowns striker Percy Tau were named Absa Premiership Goal-of-the-Month winners for September, October, November and December respectively.
Van Heerden’s goal came in the colours of former club Chippa United for his beautiful freekick against Baroka, Lebese’s goal came against Ajax Cape Town, while Masuluke’s overhead kick stunned everyone against Pirates and Tau’s goal against Free State Stars saw him claim the award.
