Escape bid by ‘doctor’ is failed op

- Vicky Abraham

The alleged bogus doctor operating in a tiny shack in Oukasie in Brits pretended he had diarrhoea and needed to go to an outdoor toilet in a bid to evade arrest on Friday.

Pleading with officials from the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the Medicines Control Council, the man who calls himself Dr John Peter Kadiubu, said: “My brother, I have a running stomach, please allow me to go to the toilet.”

This tactic did not work, but an apparent accomplice fled in a car before the police arrived.

The Citizen is continuing to investigate bogus doctors. If you suspect anyone is impersonating a doctor, send anonymous tip-offs to vicky@citizen.co.za.

The Citizen’s investigating team has been tracking down bogus doctors, relying on tip-offs from members of communities. Investigations have revealed the problem is widespread and that some bogus doctors rooms are in poor condition.

While investigating Kadiubu, The Citizen team booked a consultation.

Prior to the consultation, the receptionist requested the reporter’s identity document number and physical address. The consultation fee was R350. The fee was given to Kadiubu, but he was reluctant to issue a receipt.

Prior to the examination, an accomplice was called in to take this reporter’s blood pressure.

Kadiubu offered to issue a sick note to the photographer for one day for a fee of R150 without a consultation.

He said a sick note for three days would cost R450, but the fee was negotiated down to R150.
