SA ablaze – and frustration enters new phase

-

The ANC’s top six will be remembered as the six blind mice, writes

Farouk Araie.

The 20 members of the ANC’s National Working Committee will be remembered by historians as the disciples of Jacob. Like chameleons they changed their colours in an act of treachery, unprecedented in the annals of our democracy. The top six will be remembered as the six blind mice.

The battle for political supremacy in is in full swing.

The charade and the macabre dance we are witnessing now in our body politic was not the dream of those who fought for democracy.

Democracy as many South Africans once envisioned it, is in peril. Now politics has triumphed over economics, and the market has lost faith in political decision-making.

It has been captured by vested interest. We are today witnessing unprincipled behaviour.

Men are fallible beings, this is undoubtedly true. They fall short of their ideals. They do not invariably stick to the line of principle; they compromise quite often where moral questions are involved.

In 2019, our democracy needs to be strengthened. Without true democracy and freedom, the results are predictable: individual and social life is stunted; group interaction is curtailed; material progress distorted. The possibility of change will be halted.

Justice is demanded; and humanitarian advancement becomes mere fiction. South Africa is ablaze as frustration has entered a new dimension.
