lthough she is now popular for the role she plays on Mzansi Magic’s Igazi, a woman most love to hate, Vatiswa Ndara is a talent that cannot be overlooked, an actress that has taken numerous roles and portrayed them flawlessly, gaining the respect of the television industry.

“I believe I was six-years-old when I saw a TV because there was no television in South Africa at that time, and it just connected with me. This was when my parents moved out of the country. I knew then that I wanted to be an actress,” Ndara says, adding that though she loves her job, it would better her and her fellow actors’ lives if there was more budget in the industry.

“This would allow us to work less under pressure, and I’m sure everyone would be happier,” she adds with laughter.

While some might recognise her from her role as Marriam on SABC 1’s Home Affairs, a character that had a strong message to teach about alcoholism and parenting, and earned the actress an inaugural Safta award for Best Supporting Actress, Ndara says the role that opened major doors for her was as Ma’mfundisi on Generation­s.

“My first television break was with Generation­s, and after that more stuff came my way. It wasn’t immediatel­y, and being from a radio background some people wondered if I was ever serious about television,” she explains.
