Classics, BMWs at Midvaal

ROUND FIVE OF 2017 INLAND CHAMPIONSH­IPS NEAR MEYERTON Datsuns will feature strongly in the Historic Car Club races.

The Midvaal Raceway near Meyerton will host round five of this year’s Inland Championsh­ip this Saturday, with six separate four-wheeler categories on the bill.

Heading up proceeding­s in terms of numbers and variety will be the Midvaal Historic Car Club races, with front runners expected to include Eugene Gouws (Chev Firenza CanAm), Shawn Smidt (Datsun 160Y), Seef Fourie (Datsun 160Y) and Andre de Lange (VW Jetta MK 1).

Also to be watched will be people like Johan Coetzer (Datsun GX), Brendon Parker (Datsun GX Coupe), Ken Price (Datsun GX Coupe), Johan Coetzer Jnr (Datsun GX), Rene van Rensburg (Ford Escort Mk2) and Jackie Morrison (Ford Escort).

Drivers fighting for class positions throughout the field should include Franz Jensen (Datsun 1200 GX), Jaques Mostert (Datsun GX Coupe), Joe Soares (Ford Escort), Anton Vos (Datsun GX Coupe), Johan Venter (VW Jetta), Carel Vos (Datsun GX), Johan Swanepoel (Alfa Romeo Giulia), Travis Jensen (Datsun 1200 GX) and Danie du Plessis (Ford Anglia).

The Bridgeston­e BMW Club races should see defending champion Julian Fameliaris (BMW E36 328i Turbo) facing off against Lorenzo Gualtieri (BMW E36 328i Turbo), Dino Fameliaris (BMW E36 M3 Turbo) and Stefano Martinelli (BMW E36 328i Turbo).

In class B Paulo Loureiro (BMW E36 M3 GTS) will be challenged by Riaan Woest (BMW E46 M3 GTR) and Rick Loureiro (BMW E30 3.2 CSL), while top Class C contenders must include Philip Smit (BMW

The Midvaal gates will be open from 8am, with racing expected to commence at 10am.

The top VW Polo challenger­s will be George Economides, Paul Saayman, Paul van Niekerk and Adrian Dalton.

The Honda CRX and Ballade challenge will come from Keegan Pottas, Dirk Lawrence, Jeff Langeveldt and Brandon Hall.

The Big Boss Auto Super Saloon races should produce the day’s quickest lap times, produced by Devin Robertson (Liqui Moly Corvette), Amos Cockeram (Hoosier Tyres Chev Lumina) or Lonika Maartens (Royal Purple Chev Lumina).

The GT2 encompasse­s a variety of turbo charged spaceframe cars with drivers like Marius Jacobs, JP Nortjie and JP Bolhman.
