Ambitious Kane eyes Ballon d’Or

BUT HE ADMITS SPURS HAVE TO WIN TROPHIES Striker aiming to emulate four-time winner Ronaldo.

Harry Kane has dreams of holding aloft the Ballon d’Or trophy like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but the Tottenham Hotspur striker knows his club must start winning trophies if he is to have any chance of such individual success.

Ronaldo is on course to win his fifth Ballon d’Or after helping Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League success.

“Who wouldn’t want to win that big gold trophy? It’s definitely something I aspire to do,” Kane, 23, told reporters.

“Doing that, you have to win the big tournaments, for club and country. Ronaldo won the Euros and the Champions League ... Messi’s in a similar situation.”

Kane, who scored 29 goals in 30 Premier League games last season, said he hoped to emulate Ronaldo’s big-game mentality.

“You see him do that game in, game out, in finals, in semifinals,” Kane said of Ronaldo’s goalscoring record in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Kane is in action today when Group F leaders England face Scotland in a 2018 World Cup qualifier. They then face France in a friendly on June 13. –
