It was a real balls up

-

Bafana Bafana had to lend Nigeria their training balls on Saturday for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Saturday, after the Nigerian Football Federation failed to supply the official match ball for the game. It certainly didn’t do Bafana any harm, as they ended up beating the Super Eagles 2-0. The balls used on Saturday were clearly marked with the word “RSA”. One Nigerian player told the website

“We didn’t turn up and we lost. But to a large extent the ball didn’t help us. I’m not making excuses. We are sorry that we lost and we are to be blame for it, but how about learning how to use a new ball on matchday? We had to.”

Mokoena ‘heading for stardom’

SuperSport United captain Dean Furman has backed youngster Teboho Mokoena (above) to become one of the country’s leading midfielders. At 18, the national Under-20 international has been playing regular top-flight football for the side. “The lad has got a good head, he is lucky he has been maturing quicker than his peers. ‘Tebza’ is an excellent lad, he is focused and we can see that. All he has to do is make sure he keeps a level head,” Furman said.

Moriri could call it a day

Rumours are that former Mamelodi Sundowns’ attacking midfielder Surprise Moriri is considering hanging up his boots after his side Highlands Park were relegated to the National First Division after a single season in the Absa Premiership. Moriri joined the Lions of the North in November last year after he fell out of favour in Pitso Mosimane’s pecking order, resulting in him leaving

as a free agent in August last year.
