Flexibility can land England World Cup

-

London – Scrumhalf Danny Care (right) believes adopting a different style of play depending on the match situation, much as England did in the thrilling 38-34 win over Argentina in San Juan on Saturday, will increase the side’s chances of lifting the next World Cup.

Coach Eddie Jones has taken a fairly inexperienced squad on the two-match tour to Argentina but the side used a more loose, quick and distinctly southern hemisphere approach to find a new way to win than they had in the recent Six Nations.

“You’ve got to win six big games in a row in a World Cup, and you’ll be playing against teams from all over, so you’ve got to develop different ways to win,” Care said.

“You look at the All Blacks, the majority of their tries comes from unstructured play. They are the best team in the world because they take the most opportunities. Off turnovers they are lethal.

“If we can develop that side of our game and keep getting better and better, trying to get that goal of being number one in the world, we’re still a long way off it, but we’re working hard.”

England and Argentina play the second Test at the Estadio CA Colon on Saturday.
