All that glitters for ‘One Gear’

VETERAN AWARE OF YOUNG LION’S APPETITE Mostert remains unbeaten as he looks to pull off a massive upset tonight.

The last time heavyweight champion Andrew van Zyl left the Extreme Fighting Championship hexagon after an event at Sun City, it was with championship gold around his waist.

Tonight at EFC61 he will be hoping for the same outcome.

The fans at the Sun City Superbowl will no doubt be witnessing the biggest fightcard of the year so far with the organisation’s two biggest titles being put on the line.

The crowd favourite – affectionately known as “One Gear” for his amazing ability to keep up an electric pace for an entire fight – will have his work cut out for him when he faces the undefeated Wessel Mostert.

“He’s a young hungry lion who is coming for my belt, but he’s got nothing on me,” the veteran Van Zyl said at the official weigh-in at Sun City yesterday.

Mostert – a keen hunter – has blown past all the opponents put in front of him since his debut at EFC49.

The light heavyweight title will also be up for grabs as a dangerous champion takes on an unknown challenger.

Champion Dulcha – arguably one of the most dangerous fighters in the organisation – has finally found a challenger willing to step into the hexagon with him.

That man is undefeated French wrecking machine Alan Baudot who despite a record of 6-0 will be making his EFC debut.

“I am so excited to be back,” said Dulcha, who hasn’t been in the hexagon since claiming the title back at EFC52.

“It’s not about the words, we will see what happens in the cage,” he said after being asked about his opponent’s comments leading up to the fight.

The heavyweight triple play on the main card is capped as title contender Elvis Moyo takes on little-known Brit Stuart Austin.

Whatever the outcomes at the Super Bowl tonight, there are sure to be fireworks.
