HOW TO DEPOSE JACOB ZUMA AS PRESIDENT OF SA ‘This is a battle, an initiative, by South Africans for the future of South Africa’.

- Amanda Watson amandaw@citizen.co.za

About 500 people from more than 100 organisations, including political parties, will spend Mandela Day discussing how to legally depose President Jacob Zuma and stop state capture.

“We were a generation that walked with our heads held high about a constitutional dispensation that pronounced so strongly about lifting the poor from their condition,” said Sipho Pityana of Save SA.

“The point we’re making is a vote against a motion of no confidence in Zuma is a vote in support of state capture.

“We’ll also be looking at actively campaigning for measures to stop state capture and roll back its tentacles in various ways.”

Pityana said the group believed there was sufficient evidence for law enforcement officers to act in the face of “overwhelming evidence of criminality exposed”.

“This is a battle, an initiative, by South Africans for the future of South Africa.

“One of the best ways to tackle this is legally and to this end, Outa (Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse) produced a document called “No room to hide: A president caught in the act”, said Dominique Msibi, Outa’s portfolio director – social services.

“This is a legal case document focusing on Jacob Zuma’s role in state capture.

“And we have evidence backing everything in the document.

“It explains how Zuma and his cronies are enriching themselves at the expense of this country,” added Msibi.

She noted the document had been delivered to all the members of parliament, parliament itself, the Hawks, the minister of police, the national prosecuting authority and the public protector.

The 175-page document lists “evidence [of] the serious and flagrant breach by the president of his constitutional obligations and his oath of office”, something the Constitutional Court has already found against Zuma over Nkandla.

Pityana said the Nelson Mandela Foundation was also on board.

The Freedom Movement called on South Africans to “join thousands of citizens who will march to and gather outside parliament while parliamentarians deliberate and vote inside”.

“This is the last push to stop a rogue president from destroying our country,” said the statement from Freedom Movement.

“Ordinary South Africans are now feeling the damage caused by this dangerous man.

“The economy is falling apart, factories and mines are closing down and thousands of people are losing their jobs.” –
