Players, coach have to learn the Pirates ethos

Iwant to talk about the Orlando Pirates shirt launch which took place yesterday. I’m impressed by the design and its uniqueness. It is important to point out that it looks similar to the one that was used by the team before the 1995 generation.

I am confident that this one will be something of a psychological boost in terms of helping the players to regain their focus after they had a disastrous outing last season.

The previous campaign was a very difficult one, not only for the players on the pitch, but for the backroom staff and most notably for the supporters of the team. This kit will play a huge role in reuniting the team with the supporters because of its historical significance.

One aspect that will help the team to make sure that they step out of the darkness that they found themselves in last season will be a thorough educative session with the players.

The management need to sit down with their players and make sure they take the entire team, including the backroom staff, and educate them about the history of this club so they can understand how important this team is to the fans.

This will then lead to them having a better view and understanding in regards to being part of, and representing, a team of Pirates’ stature.

The Buccaneers have been fairly quiet in the transfer market, with Thamsanqa Sangweni being their only standout signing so far.

However, I do not blame them for being quiet at the moment because in the general situation, you will find teams signing players just for the sake of it.

They need to study the kind of players which they need to reinforce the team so that they can go out into the market knowing exactly who they are looking for. It is not a good idea to just purchase players because everybody else is doing so.

At the moment, the club are following those guidelines of identifying exactly what they are looking for as the new season starts, and if they stick with those guidelines, they will have the right calibre of player.

From my side, I would like the team to work on the psychological part because we have seen the team struggling in the previous campaign.

If they balance out the psychological part at this stage, and make sure they work with the players’ mindset, they’ll be fine.

This will rebuild their confidence. Not only that, it will rebuild the self-belief among the players and they will regain the trust in their individual abilities and the ability to work as a team again.

The players will understand their role in the team and understand what is expected from them.

Not only should the players be educated about the history of the famous club, I also believe it is necessary to take the coach through the legacy of this club as he is a foreigner.

But I believe the team itself shoul d make sure they take the coach through the entire history and the culture of the club as I don’t believe there should be someone who coaches Pirates without knowing much about their history and their standards.

He needs to be in a position of knowing and understanding the club in its entirety.

Now it will be up to him to make sure he proves himself and show the Pirates supporters that he is good enough to take the club forward.

He needs to adapt to the demands of Pirates.
