Man’s mentality will be the downfall of us all

To my mind, we’re no better than reptiles writes, from the East Rand.

hat a pity, in an otherwise beautiful world, that we have to deal with predators and prey. Winners and losers! Haves and have-nots, and so on.

Not only do germs, insects, reptiles, fish, birds and wild animals prey on each other, but humans do too.

We are taught from a young age that it is “alright to win”, to be the “top dog”, to come “first” in any sport or “competitive situation”.

Isn’t this where contempt for others is born? Isn’t this where “live and let die” originates from? Wars, murders, disputes, man’s inhumanity towards man, “I’m the king of the castle and you’re the dirty rascal” type of mentality.

And to crown it all, we humans see ourselves as being the only intelligent, reasoning and brainy ones when compared with other species.

To my mind, we’re no better than reptiles.

Man, and only man, will turn out to be the downfall of us all. Just wait and perhaps you’ll see. Only time will tell.

I can’t help but wonder, can we change? Will we ever change? Are there enough folks around that have what it takes to change man’s attitude?

Only Solomon in his wisdom, or Jesus in his omnipotence, would know.
