Yeye thrilled at challenge ahead
CONFED CUP: UNITED NOT THERE TO MAKE UP NUMBERS
Transition from Baxter to Tinkler has been seamless, says SuperSport midfield star Letsholonyane.
SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane is thrilled to be part of the players that helped Matsatsantsa to go through to the quarterfinals of the Confederation Cup, but the mission does not stop there for Letsholonyane and his team-mates.
Yeye, as the midfielder is affectionately known in the football fraternity, says since joining the Pretoria team last year from Kaizer Chiefs, the objective of the players has been to win any silverware at hand.
“I am happy and excited to be part of the group that will be taking part in the Caf Confederation Cup quarterfinal. Our assistant coach (Kaitano Tembo) said we are the first group at SuperSport to reach the quarterfinals. So, I am very happy that I am part of this SuperSport United generation. Our goal is to keep on working hard and go all the way and see where we finish,” said Letsholonyane.
“We want to compete for every trophy that is available. We spoke about it when we started last season that we want to win everything that is available. I think as a team we have done well. We have played two domestic cup finals and now we are in the quarterfinals of the Confederation Cup.”
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old midfielder expects the team to flourish under new coach Eric Tinkler after Stuart Baxter took the Bafana Bafana job.
“It is still early days because he only had three training sessions with us before our last game. As a coach, you cannot change everything during that time. We as players feel that he is a good coach because he has done well with the teams that he coached previously. I don’t think we will struggle to get to know how he wants us to play. Even the sessions that we have had with him are no different to those of Baxter,” he added.
Matsatsantsa face Zambian side Zesco United in the last eight of the continental competition in September.
