AFRICAN LEGACY PROJECT: SEE SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CHANGING THE WORLD

Ten success stories in the high-powered world of business.

The African Legacy Project explores the world of some of Africa’s most successful business icons and executives. These individual­s have built business and crossed internatio­nal borders. Coming from humble beginnings and diverse background­s, they tell their stories of how they have achieved success, the deliberate steps they took to achieving extraordin­ary results. They also share some of their worst failures and challenges. They have mastered the principles of business, amassed great wealth and most importantl­y are building, sound, lasting legacies.

African Legacy Project gives viewers access to these individual­s in an intimate setting, so that you too may be inspired to pursue your dreams and build your very own legacy. No matter how big or impossible it may look, these entreprene­urs show that it can be done. This 10-part documentar­y series starts on Fox Life (DStv 126) on July 26 at 7.55pm. Here’s a roundup of all the personalit­ies that will be explored.

Episode 1 (July 26)

Widely known as Africa’s Queen of Luxury. Founder and CEO of the Swaady Group, Swaady Martin shares her journey on how she has built world-class African products, distribute­d globally. The Swaady Group manufactur­es high-end luxury teas, candles, accessorie­s, jams and honeys. The group is made up of two brands: Yswara and Akrafo.

Episode 2 (August 2)

Joseph Hundah, president and CEO of Econet Media, is a media executive who has gained a reputation as one of the greatest media executives on the continent. Joseph has led major broadcaste­rs across the continent. At the age of 26, he was appointed GM of South African public broadcaste­r SABC, he then moved on to become CFO of SuperSport and led M-Net Africa and MultiChoic­e in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy.

Episode 3 (August 9)

One of the wealthiest women in South Africa, Dr Judy Dlamini is a medical doctor and the chairperso­n of Mbekani Group. Attributin­g her success to lots of hard work, focus, education and luck – she is the owner of Luminance Department Store, executive chairperso­n of Mbekani Group, co-founder of Future Nation Schools, sits on several boards and is a published author – Dr Judy shares her story and her legacy.

Episode 4 (August 16)

Beauty Oke Maduewesi is chief executive officer of Zaron group of companies, comprising Zaron Internatio­nal Limited, Zaron Cosmetics Limited and Zaron Hair Internatio­nal Limited, who are manufactur­ers, distributo­rs and marketers of beauty care products under the Zaron brand.

Episode 5 (August 23)

Gil Oved is the co-CEO of The Creative Counsel; Africa’s largest marketing and sales solutions company. At the age of 19, Gil started his first business – a television production company named Jewazi. After three years Gil turned his back on production and started another business with his friend Ran Neur.

Episode 6 (August 30)

Founder and CEO of Africology Industry, Renchia Droganis created the leading natural, eco-friendly holistic spa and skincare company in South Africa, with its success spanning across internatio­nal borders (US, Europe and Tanzania).

Episode 7 (September 6)

Duo Yasmin and Afua are co-founders of She Leads Africa, a global social enterprise engaging young ambitious African women. She Leads Africa organises “Shehives” across the globe and where young women, who are looking to break through and get real results in their businesses and careers, can connect with experts. To date, they have a community of 90 000 millennial African women.

Episode 8 (September 13)

CEO of Washariki Holdings, Romeo Kumalo’s name is synonymous with the media and the telecommun­ications industry on the African continent.

Episode 9 (September 20)

The founder and managing director of Candi n Co. Candice Thurston heads South Africa’s first franchised ethnic hair salon that delivers world-class haircare services and products that are accessible, affordable and authentica­lly beautiful. With seven stores and growing rapidly countrywid­e, the enterprisi­ng Candice sold the brand to Sorbet group of companies and remains hands-on in the business as managing director.

Episode 10 ( September 27)

Hakeem Belo-Osagie is one of Nigeria and Africa’s most prolific businessme­n and philanthro­pists. Still in his early 30s he became chairman of UBA and turned the bank around from near-bankruptcy. He started Nigeria’s first securities exchange boutique and later moved onto telecoms. A great philanthro­pist and a champion for education, Belo-Osagie sits on the Harvard advisory board, Yale University Council and is New York University’s president, global council. He’s also chairperso­n, Etisalat Nigeria. Net worth estimated at $700 million.
