It sounds stupid but it really is not
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
What do you get when you mix two mischievous pranksters with a no-nonsense principal? If you guessed an unlikely superhero that wears tightywhiteies, you’re right.
Surprisingly, Captain Underpants:
The First Epic Movie is an exciting subversive comedy treat where two kids create a superhero from a hypnotic ring they found in a cereal box. The problem is, it’s their mean principal who becomes an unlikely saviour. Now, what would you do if you had control of your principal when you were in primary school? Most kids will say make him act like a chicken and embarrass him in front of the student body as punishment, but the problem is, George (voice of Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) also face a new nemesis in the form of science teacher Professor Pee-Pee Diarrheastein Poopypants Esq who is an evil genius with a silly voice who wants to stop all laughter in the world.
The two need to use Captain Underpants to outwit Professor Poopypants and not only make their principal serve their every comedic indulgence.
The film is based on the children’s novel series Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey. The premise of the film from the outset sounds quite stupid, but thanks to a bunch of A-listers like Ed Helms as the principal and Captain Underpants, Hart, Middleditch and Nick Kroll as the professor the comedy pops. There’s also some interesting animation that makes it a surprising big-screen gem.
Expect potty humour with an age-appropriate appeal. If you haven’t been to a movie in a while, this one should be on your radar.
